Ogun Assembly Probes Fencing Controversy, Orders Protection Of Access Road

… Lawmakers direct Physical Planning Ministry to enforce State Master Plan

… Contractor warned against blocking route linking seven Ogun communities

The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has inspected a disputed construction site at Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area and ordered immediate enforcement of the State Master Plan, following complaints that fencing activities could block a major public access road.

Led by Hon Samsideen Lawal, the committee carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the road linking Eredo-Alase and six neighbouring villages after earlier warnings against its alleged closure.

The lawmakers directed the State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to move to the location without delay and ensure that the existing road remains open to residents.

They further warned Mr Lateef Adekunle Ajayi, also known as Lati Iyana, to stop the fencing project immediately and desist from allegedly deploying thugs to intimidate residents and obstruct movement of people, including school children, pending conclusion of investigations.

Hon Lawal recalled that the Assembly had previously ordered a halt to construction over concerns about environmental degradation, obstruction of movement and reported harassment of villagers.

Petitioners from the affected communities — including Eredo-Alase, Itoku, Lologe, Alawonla, Ilepe and Okuyigba — alleged that the construction works threatened their only access route and exposed them to intimidation.

The committee chairman urged the Local Government Chairman, the Commissioner of Police and the Ministry of Physical Planning to enforce a stop-work order on the disputed project until the issues are resolved.

He stressed that safeguarding public access roads remains a statutory obligation and warned that any violation of planning regulations would attract sanctions.
