… Ojajuni pledges discipline, community partnership

Olayinka Akinpelu

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, has declared zero tolerance for misconduct, corruption and human rights violations within the Command, pledging to enforce discipline and professionalism among officers.
Speaking during his maiden press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Monday, Ojajuni said his administration would be guided by the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu , that “the citizens are our bosses”.
“This guiding principle will remain the cornerstone of my administration in Ogun State,” he said.
Ojajuni stressed that abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards the public and corruption would not be tolerated under his leadership.
“The Inspector-General of Police also made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for abuse of office, indiscipline, incivility towards members of the public, violations of human rights, and corruption. These directives are sacrosanct and I assure you that I will implement them fully and without compromise,” he stated.
The Commissioner emphasised that discipline would remain the foundation of policing in the state, warning that erring officers would be sanctioned.
“I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times,” he said.
He called on officers to treat members of the public with dignity and respect, while also urging residents to cooperate with security agencies.

“We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties. Respect, as they say, is reciprocal. Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the Police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect,” Ojajuni added.
As part of measures to strengthen accountability, he said the Command would deploy internal monitoring mechanisms, including the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), to address public complaints and ensure transparency.
According to him, the CRU will be accessible through telephone and social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and WhatsApp, while the Gateway Shield App and the Police Control Room will operate round the clock to receive real-time information.
Ojajuni further disclosed that the X-Squad and Police Monitoring Unit would be strengthened to enforce discipline within the Force.
“There will be no safe haven for misconduct. The few bad eggs within our ranks will not be allowed to drag the good name of the Force into disrepute,” he said.
He assured residents that the Command would adopt proactive policing strategies to sustain peace and security across Ogun State, while also prioritising collaboration with stakeholders.
“My administration will be inclusive. We will deepen collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, the media and other security agencies,” he said.
Ojajuni also pledged to prioritise the welfare of officers, urging them to work with renewed commitment and unity of purpose.
“The peace and security of the people of Ogun State remain my paramount agenda. It shall be an unrelenting service to sustain the existing peace as well as ensuring a peaceful and secure state,” he said.
