The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt Refinery, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward energy independence.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 26, by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Mr. Olufemi Soneye.
“A Historic Milestone: Port Harcourt Refinery Begins Operations,” Soneye declared in a statement. “Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.”
He attributed the success of the project to the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the leadership of Group CEO Mele Kyari.
“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future,” Soneye added.
The refinery, located in Rivers State, has undergone extensive rehabilitation to boost Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
This development is expected to significantly impact the country’s energy sector, creating jobs and contributing to economic growth.
