In a bold move to empower Nigerian youth and ease transportation challenges, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGi) have launched a youth portal to facilitate the distribution of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tricycles.
Announcing the development, Hon. Bukola Oyawoye, a member of the House Committee on Youth Development, emphasized the importance of the portal, stating that it will “open doors of opportunities for youth across the country,” streamlining the distribution process for the CNG-powered tricycles.
The portal, accessible via www.youthcng.ng, is designed to ensure transparency and fairness in the allocation of tricycles. Alh. Muh’d Sani Hassan, President of the National Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS), highlighted its purpose, noting, “This initiative will promote swift and easy access to government programs, ensuring no one is left behind.”
The CNG initiative, a brainchild of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aims to alleviate transportation costs for both the young and old. Mr. Tosin Coker, Head of Commercial for PCNGi, explained, “This program is a direct response to the growing transportation expenses in Nigeria, offering relief to citizens by providing affordable, eco-friendly alternatives.”
Minister of State for Youth Development, Comrade Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, also underscored the portal’s significance, stating, “The platform will bridge the gap between commercial road workers and the government, empowering the youth while reducing transportation costs.”
He added that the portal would offer various benefits such as registration for the CNG-powered tricycle program, connections with aggregators, and access to skills development and training opportunities.
Mr. Olusanya Olubunmi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, commended the launch as a “critical step in the journey toward youth empowerment and national development.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating meaningful avenues for youth engagement.
