…Management Sets Up Panel To Probe Allegations

…Says There’s Peace in the Centre

…Medical Director Denies Victimisation, Calls For Calm

Olayinka Akinpelu

The Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, Dr (Mrs) Sarah Ibiyemi, has dismissed claims linking a recent security breach at a nurse’s residence to an ongoing assault case within the hospital.

Mrs Ibiyemi’s reaction follows concerns raised by the Elegant Nurses Forum, led by Thomas Abiodun Olamide, over the safety of Chief Nursing Officer, Odusola Oluwakemi.

The forum had alleged that an unidentified man who reportedly scaled the fence of the nurse’s residence could be connected to an earlier assault involving the Head of Nursing Services, Fagoyinbo Abosede.

However, the medical director said the matter remained under internal review and should not be linked to unverified incidents.

“This issue has been handled by the management. A panel was set up to investigate and concerned personnel have been invited to state their positions,” Ibiyemi said.

She added that relevant professional bodies, including nursing councils, had visited the hospital as part of efforts to ensure transparency.

According to her, the situation within the facility has stabilised since management intervened.

“There is peace in the centre. The issue is still within the management and the investigative panel. Claims being circulated should be properly verified,” she stated.

Ibiyemi also dismissed suggestions of victimisation within the system, describing recent staff postings as routine following the recruitment of about 30 nurses.

She further said the Head of Nursing Services had no knowledge of the reported intrusion, noting that the allegation should not be attributed without evidence.

Meanwhile, the Elegant Nurses Forum, in a statement, condemned the alleged assault on Odusola, which it said occurred on 15 January 2026 and resulted in her hospitalisation.

The group expressed concern over a recent incident in which an unknown ব্যক্তি allegedly gained access to the nurse’s residence, raising fears of possible intimidation.

It called on the Ogun State Police Command to provide protection for the victim and ensure a thorough investigation into both the assault and the reported intrusion.

The forum also urged the hospital management to address issues of workplace violence and ensure justice is served.

It noted that the police had obtained a statement from the Head of Nursing Services and expressed hope that the matter would proceed in accordance with the law.

The NLC-style group maintained that nurses deserve a safe working environment and vowed to continue advocating against intimidation and victimisation within the profession.
