Abiodun Swears in New LG Chairmen, Vows to End Hooliganism in Ogun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared a zero-tolerance stance on hooliganism and tyranny in the state, vowing to prosecute those responsible for disruptions during the recent local government elections.

Speaking at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta on Sunday night, during a reception for newly elected local government chairmen and their deputies, Governor Abiodun condemned the violence that marred elections in Iperu-Remo.

He promised swift action to ensure that those involved are brought to justice, regardless of their social standing.

“Let me assure you that the events in Iperu are under thorough investigation. Anyone found guilty—no matter their rank or influence—will face the full weight of the law,” the governor stated.

Abiodun revealed that unauthorized security personnel were hired to disrupt the elections, causing chaos and attacking officials, including a vice-chairman in his hometown.

He disclosed that the illegal operatives had been disarmed and taken into custody at Eleweran.

“As the Chief Security Officer of this state, I will not allow such impunity. Enough is enough,” he asserted.

The governor urged the new chairmen to embrace fairness, inclusivity, and dedication in their service, reminding them of their responsibility to all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

“The elections are over, and you are now leaders for all. Be fair and just to everyone, and focus on delivering development to every corner of the state,” Abiodun advised.

At the swearing-in ceremony held on Monday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, the governor charged the chairmen to prioritize grassroots development.

He emphasized the importance of aligning with the state’s ISEYA mantra, which focuses on Infrastructure, Social development, Education, Youth empowerment, and Agriculture.

“As the closest tier of government, you must formulate policies and implement programmes that improve the lives of the people. Use this opportunity to serve diligently and deliver the dividends of democracy to your communities,” Abiodun said.

He also urged the local government leaders to prioritize security, work with traditional rulers and stakeholders, and embrace innovative strategies to boost revenue for their councils.

“The peaceful conduct of the elections is a testament to the confidence our people have in us. Let us justify this trust by serving selflessly and mentoring future leaders to sustain our legacies,” the governor concluded.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by party leaders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries. The new local government chairmen pledged their commitment to serving the people and advancing development in their respective areas.
