… Promises Inclusive, Collaborative Governance

History was made on March 26, 2025, as Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD, Executive Chairman of Odeda Local Government, emerged as the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State Chapter.
Her election marks a groundbreaking milestone as she becomes the first woman to lead the body since its inception, setting a new standard for gender inclusion in grassroots governance.
Hon. Adeyemo’s victory was unanimously supported by her fellow local government chairpersons, all male, reflecting their confidence in her vision, leadership abilities, and commitment to grassroots development.
In her inaugural address, Hon. Adeyemo expressed heartfelt gratitude to God and Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for their roles in her success. She described her emergence as a victory for gender equality and pledged to deliver inclusive governance that prioritizes community needs.
“First and foremost, I glorify the Most High God for His grace in bringing me to this milestone,” she said. “I am also deeply indebted to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, whose mentorship and steadfast support have been instrumental in my journey.”
A Trailblazer in Leadership
Hon. Adeyemo’s ascent is historic and a testament to her remarkable achievements in public service. Among her many firsts, she was the first female LGEA Education Secretary in Odeda (2013–2017), a member of the National Institute of Fresh Water Fisheries (2018–2022), and the first female Executive Chairman of Odeda LGA (2021–2024).
She also served as the first female State ALGON Secretary and is the first person to secure a second consecutive term as Odeda LGA Chairman since 1955.
“Being the first female ALGON Chairman is not just a personal achievement but a victory for women in leadership,” she stated. “It underscores the growing recognition of women’s ability to inspire change and drive development.”
Promise of Collaborative Governance
Hon. Adeyemo pledged to foster local governments’ unity and prioritize sustainable development across Ogun State. She outlined her vision of transforming ALGON into a more dynamic body that enhances service delivery and advocates for public-private partnerships.
“I pledge to work hand in hand with my colleagues to deliver an inclusive government that meets the aspirations of our people,” she said.

Under Hon. Adeyemo’s leadership, Ogun State ALGON is poised to advance community-driven initiatives and strengthen partnerships for equitable development.
