…Says Honour Reflects Customs Service Recognition
…Commits Support for Journalism Training Infrastructure

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has been conferred with a Fellowship Award by the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, in recognition of his professional achievements and contributions to national development.
The conferment took place during a special convocation ceremony held on 15 April 2026, where Adeniyi described the honour as both personal and professional, recalling the values instilled in him by the institution.
“This institution planted in me a set of values that I did not fully understand at the time, but have lived by ever since: professionalism as a standard, not a performance; discipline as a habit, not an event; and continuous self-development as a personal obligation,” he said.
He added that the recognition extends beyond his person to the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that dedication to service does not go unnoticed.
As part of his commitment, Adeniyi announced plans to support the establishment of a modern multimedia and resource centre at the institute, aimed at enhancing practical training for students. The proposed facility will include a radio station, editing and production suites, and integrated multimedia systems.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Olusegun Osoba, described the event as historic, stating that the conferment was approved by Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that Adeniyi is the first alumnus of the institute to receive the fellowship.
Also speaking, the Provost, Gbenga Adefaye, said the award reflects the institution’s enduring values of discipline, ethical responsibility and intellectual rigour, adding that Adeniyi’s career exemplifies impactful leadership beyond journalism.
