… Cites union stickers, illegal taxation disputes

… Fingers government officials, security operatives backing union touts

Olayinka Akinpelu

Akmode Transport Limited has alleged that some members of major motorcycle unions in Ogun State, alongside unidentified criminal elements and certain government officials, attacked its staff and forcefully seized several of its motorcycles over disputes relating to commercial motorcycle union stickers and alleged illegal taxation.

The company, in a statement signed by its Manager, Comrade Mustapha Tiamiyu, said the incidents occurred along the Lafenwa-Sabo-Ogun Radio axis of Abeokuta and began on 1 June 2026.

According to the statement, some of its staff members were assaulted while several motorcycles belonging to the company were forcefully impounded and taken to unknown locations.

Akmode alleged that the attacks had continued unabated and claimed that the perpetrators were acting with the support of some government and security officials.

According to Comrade Tiamiyu, “… the nefarious and criminal activities of these hoodlums continued unabated as it is rightly observed that these criminals and their allies have the backings of some government and security officials, following rival unions’ failure and inability to forcefully and maliciously pull down the lawful operations of Akmode Transport Limited at all cost having tried on several occasions in recent past over frivolous allegations and reasons best known to them.”

The company further alleged that rival motorcycle unions had made several attempts in the past to disrupt its operations through what it described as frivolous allegations and actions aimed at bringing its activities to a halt.

It described the incidents as a criminal attempt to cause unrest and chaos and said it had earlier alerted security agencies in the state about the possibility of such developments.

The company said the actions were intended to damage its reputation and portray its operations in a bad light.

Akmode urged its affected staff members to remain calm, law-abiding and continue carrying out their lawful duties.

“This is purely a criminal attempt to cause unrest, crisis and chaos as earlier suggested and reported intelligently to security agencies in the State aimed at portraying the Company and its staff in bad light by damaging its reputation towards bringing Akmode Transport Limited activities to a halt.

Besides, We urge our staff whose motorcycles were forcefully and unlawfully impounded and taken to unknown destination by these touts and criminals to remain calm and be law abiding as they go about their lawful duty.” He said.

The company also called on citizens, the media and security institutions in Ogun State to intervene in the interest of justice and peace.

The allegations had yet to receive responses from the motorcycle unions and government officials mentioned in the statement as of the time of filing this report.
