Blogger Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, appeared before a House of Representatives panel on Monday to testify regarding his allegations of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
The panel, comprising the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, launched an investigation into the corruption allegations leveled by the blogger.
These accusations center on claims that controversial cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, allegedly paid ₦15 million to the EFCC to have money laundering charges against him dropped after a naira-spraying incident in April.
In a viral video, VeryDarkMan alleged that after Bobrisky’s sentencing to six months’ imprisonment, he made additional payments to the prison authorities to secure more comfortable conditions during his time in prison.
Both the EFCC and the NCoS have denied these claims and ordered internal investigations into the matter.
Bobrisky has also publicly refuted the accusations, labeling them as baseless.
The House of Representatives panel, chaired by members of the two committees, began questioning officials from the EFCC and NCoS to gather more information on the blogger’s allegations.
Speaking on the matter, the committee chairperson stated, “This investigation is essential to ensure that the integrity of our law enforcement institutions remains intact. Any proven allegations of corruption will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had earlier called on the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to conduct an independent probe into the claims made by VeryDarkMan.
As the investigation continues, the panel is expected to call additional witnesses and review documents to determine the validity of the accusations.
