An Ekiti State Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has ordered the remand of a 42-year-old man, Christopher Israel, in a correctional facility for allegedly raping his 22-year-old daughter.
The defendant was arraigned on Wednesday on two charges of rape and assault by the Ekiti State Police.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, informed the court that the alleged crime took place on September 21 in Ado Ekiti.
According to the prosecutor, Israel raped his daughter when she visited him and inflicted injuries on her during the struggle.
“The offence committed contravened Sections 265 and 256 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021,” Apata told the court.
He urged the court to remand the defendant pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Magistrate Olubunmi Bamidele, who presided over the case, did not take the defendant’s plea. She ordered Israel’s remand in the correctional facility, pending further legal proceedings.
The case was adjourned until November 6 for a mention.
