Investigation Reveals Death of Obada High School Student Not Linked to Flogging

By Medalinks News on October 27, 2024 Metro

An investigation by MEDALINKS NEWS24 has shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a student at Obada Community High School in Imeko Afon Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Contrary to reports circulating on social media, findings indicate that the student’s death was not caused by excessive flogging.

The incident reportedly occurred during an assembly where the school principal addressed Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2) students regarding new waste bins she had purchased for the school.

The principal had urged the students to maintain the bins, which were to be placed at strategic locations around the school.

During the address, one student allegedly made a remark, insinuating that the bins were purchased with students’ funds.

The principal asked the students to identify the person who made the comment, but no one came forward.

In response, she directed teachers to administer two strokes of the cane to each student as a disciplinary measure.

Contrary to claims circulating on social media that the deceased received 162 strokes, only two strokes were given to each student in the class, MEDALINKS NEWS24 learned.

During the process, the deceased student reportedly collapsed and was immediately attended to by school staff, regaining consciousness after receiving medical care.

Staff members, however, noticed marks on the student’s body and inquired about their origin. The student disclosed that he had been in a motorcycle accident before coming to school, but chose not to inform anyone because he “didn’t feel like telling anyone.”

While the cause of death remains a matter of concern, a source close to the investigation revealed that the family of the deceased is still mourning deeply.

The source appealed to the public to respect the grieving family and avoid spreading false narratives that could exacerbate their pain.

The school’s management plans to visit the family soon to express their condolences. As investigations continue, the public is urged to disregard unverified information and respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.
