…Osile, Isola, Bakare, Others Celebrate Egbaland’s Rich Heritage
Eminent personalities gathered yesterday in Abeokuta to celebrate the 19th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo CFR, the Alake of Egbaland.
The event highlighted the enduring legacy of Egba heroes, including Olubiyi Akinrinlewo Sodeke, whose contributions to Egbaland were commemorated with the unveiling of a statue in his honour.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the Osile of Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Dr. Adedapo Adewale Tejuoso; former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola; the General Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare; Omooba Dr. Adedoyin Yemisi Shyllon; Prof. Chris Funke Ifeta (nee Renner), and other notable Egba chiefs.
Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola lauded the Alake’s transformational leadership, particularly his strides in education, healthcare, and economic development.
“Your Majesty’s reign has been marked by wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the people of Egbaland,” Isola stated.
The highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of Sodeke’s statue, a tribute to the revered Egba leader who led his people into Abeokuta and fostered unity.
The statue, designed by Prof. Chris Funke Ifeta and sponsored by Omooba Dr. Adedoyin Yemisi Shyllon, symbolizes the enduring legacy of Sodeke’s vision for peace and prosperity in Egbaland.
The event also featured a thanksgiving service at the Alake’s Chapel, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual roots of the Egba people.
As Egbaland marks this milestone, the Alake’s reign continues to inspire, blending respect for tradition with a progressive outlook for a brighter future.
