The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has stressed the need for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to improve port efficiency and competitiveness.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NPA on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Adeniyi emphasized that the performance of the NCS is directly linked to the effectiveness of Nigerian ports.
“If we get it right in our ports, we will get it right in the Service,” he stated.
The CGC highlighted ongoing initiatives requiring the NPA’s support for successful implementation, commending the achievements recorded at the Export Processing Terminal. He expressed optimism about extending similar reforms to the eastern ports to boost export activities.
“The Nigeria Customs Service is ready to work with our ports authority on initiatives that will ensure the competitiveness of our ports,” he added.
In response, the Managing Director of the NPA, Abubakar Dantsoho, pledged the agency’s full support for the NCS.
“We are here for you, and we will give you all the necessary support. Together, we can move both agencies forward and help Nigeria become a better country,” he assured.
The partnership between the NCS and NPA is expected to drive reforms aimed at improving port operations and trade facilitation in Nigeria.
