The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State’s 2023 election, Ladi Adebutu, has been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), according to a statement released by the party on Monday.
Kayode Adebayo, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Ogun State, confirmed Adebutu’s detention, stating that it was allegedly linked to disturbances during the local government elections held on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
“This is to inform the members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, that the leader of the party has truly been detained by the DSS for charges yet unknown,” Adebayo disclosed.
He urged party members and supporters to remain calm as efforts to secure Adebutu’s release were ongoing. “Several efforts have been made to secure his bail as at 10 pm on Monday, either on personal recognition or by a surety, but none has yielded any result so far. His lawyers have been informed and will take it up by Tuesday morning,” Adebayo said.
Adebutu, through his party, reassured supporters, calling for patience and resilience. “Our principal has called for calm and directed that all members of the party, supporters, and well-wishers should rest assured that this time shall pass. It is one of the prices for our democracy,” the statement added.
The PDP also emphasized the need for peace and calm while awaiting further developments on the issue.
