Falz Denies Financial Assistance to Bobrisky, Demands Retraction of Defamatory Statement from VDM

Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, widely known as Falz, has confirmed that he had contact with controversial social media personality, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, regarding legal issues the latter faced earlier this year.

However, Falz firmly denied claims that he provided financial assistance to Bobrisky during his legal troubles.

The clarification came on Wednesday after Falz’s legal team, Falana & Falana Chambers, issued a letter to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

The letter demanded a retraction of defamatory statements made against Falz, which suggested he conspired with Bobrisky to “pervert the course of justice.”

In a post dated September 25, 2024, VeryDarkMan alleged that Falz, along with his father, had financially supported Bobrisky to secure a favourable outcome for his legal battle.

Bobrisky reportedly asked for N3 million to gain access to a VIP section of the Correctional Centre.

Responding to the allegations, Falz’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, clarified in a letter dated September 26, 2024, that while Bobrisky had indeed reached out to Falz, there was no financial aid provided.

The letter detailed the sequence of events, stating, “On May 4, 2024, Mr. Idris Okuneye (AKA Bobrisky) contacted our client requesting a phone conversation. Our client, believing he might require legal advice, obliged.”

Olawanle further disclosed that Bobrisky had instead asked for financial assistance, claiming he needed N3 million to pay officials to secure a spot in the VIP section of the Correctional Centre.

“Our client advised that no payments were necessary and continuously disapproved of Mr. Idris Okuneye’s request for money,” the letter added.

Falz’s legal team expressed outrage over the allegations made by VeryDarkMan, particularly insinuations that Falz was involved in a homosexual affair and was attempting to secure a presidential pardon for Bobrisky.

The letter demanded an immediate retraction and public apology across all platforms where the false claims were published.

Failure to comply within 24 hours, it warned, would lead to legal action and a claim for monetary damages.

Meanwhile, a viral video shared by VeryDarkMan revealed Bobrisky’s allegation that unnamed EFCC officers had collected N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.

Bobrisky has since denied the bribery accusations, and EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an investigation into the matter.
