The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, bid an emotional farewell to Dr. (Mrs) Olugbemisola Omobolanle Sijuola, a pioneer in ophthalmology, as she retired after 35 years of exemplary service.
A retirement ceremony held on December 19, 2024, at the Cooperative Building of FMC Abeokuta, brought together dignitaries, colleagues, family, and friends to honor her legacy.
Dr. Sijuola was lauded as a trailblazer and dedicated professional. Dr. Ebenezer Samuel Nkom, Chairman of the occasion, described her as a pivotal figure in the Ophthalmology Department and praised her unparalleled commitment to patient care.
“I am so proud of her because she has already contributed her best to the centre, and now it’s time for her to enjoy herself because she has joined the elders’ club,” Dr. Nkom said.
“I thank God Almighty for her life, and I pray she will continue to eat the fruit of her labour.”
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Dr. Sijuola thanked God for granting her the strength to serve humanity.
She also extended her appreciation to her late parents, husband, siblings, colleagues, and well-wishers who supported her throughout her career.

Over her distinguished career, Dr. Sijuola held various leadership positions, earning accolades for her expertise and commitment to excellence.
