FMC Abeokuta Staff Disown Controversial Report on New Director of Admin Appointment

…Urge FG to Address Alleged Interference in Key Appointments

…Call for Transparency, Fairness in Selection Processes

Adesakin Adefemi

Staff and workers of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, have distanced themselves from a viral report calling for the reversal of the appointment of the newly appointed Director of Administration, Dr. Exodus Apanisile.

The report, titled “FMC Abeokuta: Staff Bicker Over New Director of Admin, Seek Reversal,” alleged dissatisfaction among staff regarding the selection of Mr. Exodus Kehinde Apanisile as the new Director of Administration.

Speaking on behalf of the workers, Mrs. Atitebi Temitayo, a Medical Record Officer at the hospital, discredited the report, describing it as baseless and defamatory.

She refuted allegations linking her to the story and condemned the misrepresentation of her identity.

“It has come to my notice that a fake story circulating on the internet claims I was involved in a propaganda effort against the appointment of Mr. Exodus Kehinde Apanisile.

I categorically distance myself from the said story,” Atitebi stated. “I have never engaged in any political or propaganda activities and remain committed to my duties as a staff member of FMC Abeokuta.”

Atitebi further warned the anonymous publisher of the defamatory story, demanding its retraction within 24 hours or face legal action.

A senior medical practitioner, who preferred anonymity, confirmed that Mr. Apanisile’s appointment followed due process.

“The vacancy was advertised after the retirement of the former Director of Administration, and a rigorous selection process, including oral and written interviews for over 16 candidates, was conducted. Mr. Apanisile emerged as the most qualified candidate,” the source said.

The source added that Mr. Apanisile’s academic and professional credentials were thoroughly reviewed by the Federal Ministry of Health, affirming his suitability for the role.

“As far as FMC Abeokuta is concerned, staff members are optimistic about Mr. Apanisile’s leadership. He holds advanced administrative qualifications and has made significant contributions to staff development,” the source noted.

The workers called on the Federal Ministry of Health to strengthen oversight mechanisms and caution medical directors in government hospitals against undue interference in key appointments.

“Undue interference disrupts service delivery and demoralizes staff. We urge the government to prioritize transparency and fairness in such processes,” one of the workers emphasized.

They further expressed hope that the new administration would uphold public service rules and deliver effective healthcare services to the community and the nation at large.
