Honourable Suleiman Mujaid Ajibola and three others have been honoured with awards of excellence by the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ogun State Council, in recognition of their contributions to the growth of the labour movement.
Ajibola, alongside the General Manager of Ogun State Television, Mr Babatunde Kazeem, Comrade Olanrewaju Jaji and Honourable Kayode Oguntayo, received the awards on Friday during the 2026 “On The Wheel Award” ceremony held in Abeokuta as part of activities marking this year’s May Day celebration.
Ajibola was conferred with the Distinguished Labour Support Award for his contributions to labour-related initiatives and support for workers’ welfare in the state.
Speaking during the event, the Ogun State NLC Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola, said the awardees were recognised for their impactful contributions to society and the labour movement.
He noted that the congress does not commercialise its awards but honours individuals who have added value through support for projects, funding of initiatives and commitment to workers’ welfare.
Benco-Ademola added that the NLC, with over 65 affiliated unions, remains committed to protecting workers’ rights and advancing their interests.
Responding, Ajibola expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing the award as a boost to his personal and political journey.
The award comes amid Ajibola’s ongoing aspiration for a seat in the Ogun State House of Assembly, where he has been engaging stakeholders across Obafemi Owode Local Government.
The aspirant recently secured the backing
of party leaders, ward executives and stakeholders across the twelve wards in the council area, following consultations and meetings with the apex leadership led by Engr Akeem Babatunde Adesina.
He also received support from key stakeholders including Adesina Ogunsola, Adesina Nureni Ayinde, Foluke Funmilayo Oluwadare, Ganiyat Oyelakin, Adekunle Anifowose and Emabinu Taofeek, as well as ward chairmen under the leadership of Mathew Sopade.
Ajibola has been described by stakeholders as a loyal party member with strong grassroots appeal, known for his consistency, accessibility and continued support for party activities despite past political setbacks.
Also honoured at the event, Kazeem, represented by Assistant General Manager (News and Current Affairs), Biodun Alabi, received the Outstanding Public Service Award, while Jaji and Oguntayo were presented with Distinguished Solidarity Awards.
Earlier, NLC leaders observed special Jummah prayers at the Abeokuta Central Mosque, led by the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Sa’adallah Alade Bamgbola, as part of activities marking the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
