Major General Oluyemi Olatoye has officially assumed duty as the 39th General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and Force Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, known as ‘Operation UDO KA’.
Olatoye, who took over from Major General Hassan Dada at the Division’s headquarters in Enugu on Monday, pledged to continue the good work of his predecessor by further enhancing operational successes in the South-East and Cross River State.
He commended the outgoing GOC, Dada, for his efforts in combating crime and criminality in the region, particularly in ending the Monday Sit-at-Home protest in the South-East, which led to the resumption of normal activities in the area. Olatoye also expressed his gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, for his deployment and the continued support to the Division.
“I appreciate the outgoing GOC for his strides in curbing crime and criminality within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AoR). I noticed that the Division has effectively stopped the Monday Sit-at-Home in the South-East,” Olatoye remarked.
In his parting speech, Major General Dada reflected on his tenure, noting the significant progress made in addressing security challenges and improving the welfare of officers and soldiers. He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and dedication among troops to ensure the ongoing success of operations.
“We achieved peaceful Yuletide celebrations, witnessed a mass return of citizens in 2024, and conducted several successful operations against criminal elements,” Dada said.
The ceremony also featured the signing of the handing over and taking over notes, along with the symbolic passing of the Division’s flag from Dada to Olatoye.
With Olatoye now at the helm, expectations are high for the 82 Division to continue its vital role in securing the South-East and beyond.
