A yet-to-be-identified man lost his life, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a multiple vehicle accident around Otedola Bridge, Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accidents occurred during an operation to recover a fallen 40-foot container.
“In an overnight operation, while recovering a fallen 40-foot container for onward transmission to LASTMA Office in Oshodi, a multiple accident occurred at the same axis,” he said.
The incident involved four articulated trucks carrying containers, which collided due to reckless driving, resulting in significant damage and delays.
“One adult male, who was extricated from beneath one of the trucks, lost his life,” Oke-Osanyintolu revealed.
Three other adult males sustained injuries, with two in critical condition rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving first aid on-site.
The LASEMA boss assured that safety measures were implemented to prevent further incidents. The deceased’s body was handed over to officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and all affected trucks were removed to restore vehicular movement in the area.
He called for stricter adherence to road safety regulations to prevent similar occurrences.
