The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship candidate for Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ambassador Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, has praised Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his recent approval of the N77,000 National Minimum Wage for public service workers in the state.
Amb. Ogunsola, in a statement, described the governor’s decision as a significant step towards improving the welfare of Ogun State workers.
“This payment reflects a deep understanding of the need to elevate the standard of our workforce and recognize their critical contributions to the development of the state,” he said.
The new minimum wage, set to take effect in October 2024, applies to all cadres and levels in the Ogun State Public Service.
Ogunsola highlighted the timely nature of the decision, noting that it would greatly impact the lives of civil servants.
“The welfare of our workers cannot be overemphasized, and the governor’s prompt approval of the wage increase will go a long way in supporting them,” he added.
Ogunsola also commended the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for their support and trust in the leadership of Governor Abiodun.
He noted that the governor had pledged to implement the new wage once President Bola Tinubu signed the National Minimum Wage Bill, and he has kept that promise.
In addition, Ogunsola thanked the Federal and State governments for their efforts to cushion the effects of inflation, particularly through the sale of subsidized 50kg bags of rice at N40,000.
“This initiative helps ensure food security for households across every local government area in the state,” he said.
The APC candidate also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the governor for setting a record with the N77,000 minimum wage approval, the highest in the country.
“I want to specially thank our governor for setting a remarkable precedent, and I am confident that this will bring immediate relief to all public service workers in Ogun State,” Ogunsola stated.
As he seeks re-election in the upcoming local government election on November 16, 2024, Ogunsola assured residents of Obafemi Owode Local Government of his ongoing commitment to their welfare.
“I remain dedicated to fulfilling my promises, and I will continue to work for the benefit of my people,” he affirmed.
