New Dawn for Ogun Butchers: Association Inaugurates New Executives
The Ogun State branch of the National Butchers Union of Nigeria has taken a significant step forward with the inauguration of its new executives, an event that promises to elevate the profession in the state.
Held recently, the ceremony brought together prominent figures in the butchers’ community, including Chief Amologbe, Chairman of the Ogun West Senatorial District (Yewa-Awori), and Alhaji Iliasu Salami Ayeye, Ogun State Baba Alaje. They emphasized the need for progress in the industry and highlighted the changing perception of butchers.
Chief Amologbe addressed the gathering, noting the shift in how the profession is viewed. “Gone are the days when butchers were seen as illiterates. Today, we have graduates among us,” he said, urging the younger generation to bring passion and dedication to their work.
Alhaji Iliasu Salami Ayeye echoed these sentiments, pointing out the financial benefits the profession now offers. “The butchery profession is no longer what it used to be. It is lucrative and can fetch significant income for its members. We are now seeing a strong focus on education within the association, with many members sending their children to higher institutions.”
Alhaji Hassan Isiaka Ayelonise, the State Vice Chairman, called for collaboration with the government to ensure further development in the industry. “There is a need for cooperation between the government and our association for us to grow together,” he said, adding that patience and tolerance among members would foster unity.
The newly inaugurated executives, led by Abdul Waheed Ayinla, Oluomo Alapata, and Alhaji Dawodu Ayinde Tijani, Osi of Ogun State Butchers Association, pledged their commitment to advancing the profession. Tijani, who follows in his father’s footsteps, encouraged unemployed graduates to explore the butchery business. “This profession is lucrative. I advise graduates without jobs to consider this path,” he said.
Olugbenga Oyewumi, the Babalaje of the South West, highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene and job security, urging more young people to join the profession. “This job offers security and stability, and we ensure it’s done in a hygienic environment,” he noted.
The inauguration symbolized unity and cooperation within the butchers’ community, with leaders calling on members to be good ambassadors and maintain a clean working environment.
The renewed focus on growth and development within the Ogun State Butchers Association is expected to bring significant benefits to both its members and the wider community.
