…Suspends Principal as Delegation Visits Bereaved Family

…Supports Family with N500,000

The Ogun State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, following the death of an SS2 student, Master Monday Arijo, reportedly due to corporal punishment.

This decision comes in the wake of the arrest and suspension of the teacher alleged to be responsible for the tragic incident.

The Principal of the school, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, has also been suspended after receiving a query for permitting the use of corporal punishment, which goes against established rules and regulations in the state.

In a statement, Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed his sorrow over the incident and assured that a panel has been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding Arijo’s death.

“Those liable by the outcome of the investigation will face the full wrath of the law,” the governor stated firmly.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, led by key officials, visited the family of the late student to offer condolences and gather information for the investigation.

The team included the Director of Secondary and Higher Education, Principals General of Egba and Yewa Divisions, the Zonal Education Officer of Imeko Afon, and representatives from the Trade Union Congress, ANCOPPS, and the Ogun State chapter of ASSUS.

During the visit, the officials conveyed their deep condolences to the family and pledged the government’s support in this challenging period.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the Director of Secondary and Higher Education assured, “The government is committed to ensuring the safety of all learners, creating a more supportive school environment, and pursuing justice for the bereaved family.”

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Idi-emi also reassured the family of a thorough investigation and pledged to uncover the truth behind the incident, emphasizing the safety of their wards in the school.

As a gesture of support, the government delegation presented a condolence letter and a cash gift of N500,000 to the family.

The bereaved family, visibly shocked and grieving, expressed their sorrow at the sudden loss of their son.
