The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered human body parts hidden in two buildings disguised as Cherubim and Seraphim Church parishes, leading to the arrest of three suspects believed to be involved in the illegal human parts trade.
The grim discovery was made following a tip-off that prompted a police operation on April 22, 2025.
The buildings, located in Kobape town and along Abiola Way in Abeokuta, were reportedly used as fronts to conceal the criminal activities.
The arrested suspects, identified as Sunday Akintobi (36), Oladimeji Olaniran (40), and Isaiah Tijani (38), were apprehended by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, the suspects were caught with suspected human remains, including bones and other body parts.
Confirming the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, assured the public that a thorough and comprehensive investigation had been ordered.
He stated that forensic tests and further inquiries would be conducted to trace the origins of the human parts and the full extent of the suspects’ activities.
CP Ogunlowo warned residents against shielding criminals and emphasized the critical role of community vigilance and cooperation in combating crimes of this nature.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities and advised families to secure graveyards to prevent incidents of grave robbing and ritual killings, which have become a growing concern in the state.
The shocking discovery has triggered outrage and anxiety among residents, who expressed deep concern about the security of graves and the audacity of criminal elements operating under religious disguise.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that communities are safe. They also appealed to members of the public who have any information related to the case to come forward.
The incident has underscored the need for increased vigilance and stronger cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
Authorities have promised to keep residents informed as the investigation progresses and assured that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent a recurrence.
