…Israel rallies members during Ogun e-registration tour
The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Dayo Israel, has said no previous Nigerian administration has appointed more young people into leadership positions than that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Israel said the President’s approach to youth inclusion, alongside ongoing economic reforms, is already contributing to stabilising the nation’s economy.
He spoke on Monday during visits to Keesi Ward 4 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area and Ward 11 in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to him, the visits formed part of efforts to strengthen the APC’s ongoing nationwide electronic membership registration exercise and to mobilise more young people into active political participation.
Israel said the APC-led Federal Government has consistently given youths a sense of belonging by appointing them into key positions across government.
He said young Nigerians now serve as ministers, heads of agencies and chief executives of parastatals, adding that his own emergence as the party’s national youth leader reflected that commitment.
Israel noted that the APC’s e-registration exercise has recorded over seven million new members nationwide, explaining that the data-driven process has helped the party better understand its expanding youth base and areas requiring further engagement.
He stressed the need for young people to move beyond complaints and take part in decision-making processes by joining political parties and engaging with governance structures.
The APC youth leader said the Ogun visits were part of a broader mobilisation tour across the state, following earlier engagements in Ogun West and ahead of scheduled visits to Sagamu and other parts of Ogun East.
On economic reforms, Israel acknowledged that some policies introduced by the Tinubu administration, including fuel subsidy removal and the deregulation of the foreign exchange and petroleum sectors, were initially difficult but necessary.
He said the reforms were beginning to yield results, with increasing stability, reduced volatility and growing competition among local refiners and importers.
Israel likened the reforms to the early stages of Nigeria’s telecommunications liberalisation, when high costs eventually gave way to affordability through competition.
He expressed confidence that a second term for President Tinubu would lead to further consolidation of reforms and expanded opportunities for young Nigerians, urging youths to support the APC and participate in the ongoing registration exercise.
Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant on Health to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Dr Kehinde Ololade, said Keesi Ward 4 in Abeokuta South had recorded between 70 and 80 per cent registration under the e-registration exercise.
He attributed the development to sustained mobilisation efforts and support from party leaders, describing the visit of the national youth leader as an encouragement to grassroots members.
Ololade urged more young people to register with the party, stressing the importance of documentation and participation in the political process.
