President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated the immediate release of all minors detained by the Police during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, underscoring the need to balance legal protocols with humanitarian considerations.
The directive was announced by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, alongside Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare.
In a statement, Idris emphasized that the President’s order is a move towards “upholding justice while considering the welfare of our youth.”
President Tinubu has tasked the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs with ensuring that these minors are safely returned to their families and that their well-being is adequately monitored.
To further examine the minors’ arrests, detention, and eventual release, a committee led by the Ministry will investigate the conditions surrounding the incidents.
The President also directed that any misconduct by law enforcement officers involved in these arrests would result in disciplinary action.
This decision aligns with Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order.
