President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday dismissed five ministers from his cabinet, marking a major shake-up in his administration.
This was announced in a statement by Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Adviser on Social Media.
The affected ministers include the Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye; Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John; Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman; Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo; and Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim.
In a statement issued after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, the presidency also announced the appointment of seven new ministers to fill key positions in the cabinet.
Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Jumoke Oduwole was named Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
The President’s decision to reshuffle his cabinet comes amid efforts to reinvigorate his administration and improve governance.
No specific reasons were given for the dismissal of the five ministers, but political analysts speculate that the changes are part of a broader strategy to strengthen key sectors and enhance policy implementation.
Speaking on the appointments, a senior official in the presidency, who chose to remain anonymous, said, “The President is committed to repositioning the government for greater effectiveness and service delivery to Nigerians. The newly appointed ministers bring a wealth of experience to the table, and their contributions will be instrumental in achieving the administration’s objectives.”
The reshuffling of the cabinet is expected to signal the beginning of a new phase in the administration’s focus on improving governance and addressing pressing national issues.
