The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has condemned the recent outbreak of violence in Amagba Community, Edo State, which tragically led to the fatal shooting of Mr. Israel Ogbeide.
The victim’s body was discovered on October 19, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., with a gunshot wound. Initial findings indicate that the incident is tied to a long-standing land dispute between the Amagba and Obagie communities.
In a statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, expressed his dismay and vowed that justice would be served.
“We will ensure justice for Israel Ogbeide,” the IGP declared, directing a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting. He emphasized that those responsible would face the full extent of the law.
Contrary to rumors circulating in some quarters, the police clarified that their operatives had responded promptly to rising tensions in the Oke Aroma area, which is known for ongoing disputes. Upon arrival, the police found the area deserted after extensive patrols.
The statement clarified, “Officers did not cross into either the Amagba or Obagie communities and have since maintained a consistent presence in Oke Aroma to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety.”
The NPF further assured residents that their deployment is solely guided by situational intelligence and operational requirements, not external pressures. Residents were urged to stay calm and cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
The police called on anyone with information related to Mr. Ogbeide’s death or any other relevant incident to come forward.
“Your assistance is crucial to ensuring justice is served and peace restored,” the NPF appealed.
